The Clinical Laboratory at HMC is open 24 hours a day every day of the year to perform laboratory procedures for In-Patients, Home Health Patients, and Emergency Room Patients. Outpatients are seen on Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. For more information call (931) 685-5416.

The Medical Director of the Laboratory is Dr. John W. Templeton. He is affiliated with Associated Pathologists, P.L.C. who offer complete pathology services to the clinical laboratory and to surgery. Dr. Templeton can be reached through the hospital laboratory or at (931) 967-8656. Associated Pathology has specialists in all areas of anatomical pathology and a pathologist is on-call at all times.

Our laboratory is licensed by the State of Tennessee and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. We perform tests in the areas of Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Chemistry, Serology, and Microbiology. Fifteen licensed Medical Technologists and Medical Laboratory Technicians perform all tests.

For tests ordered by your physician but not performed here in our lab, we draw the specimens and send them to Vanderbilt Pathology Laboratory in Nashville and Specialty Laboratory in California. We work closely with these labs to keep our test menu up to date.

We also provide a complete Transfusion Service for medical, surgical, and emergency patients. We obtain all of our blood components from the American Red Cross and work in cooperation with them to ensure that our patients receive the safest possible blood products. They also draw autologous units from our patients whose doctors wish to have the patient's own blood available for upcoming surgery. Such units are then sent to our laboratory for storage and processing.

The laboratory maintains a draw station in the Medical Arts Building behind the hospital from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for the convenience of patients visiting their physicians in that location. Tests are performed in the hospital laboratory. For more information call (931) 685-5415.
